Philosophy
UEE recognizes the importance of data-driven instruction. Our entire curriculum is based upon 21 inferential thinking skills (the Concepts of Comprehension©) which can be discretely taught and measured through assessments. Frequent student assessments indicate which of the 21 skills need the most attention, enabling teachers to tailor lessons to the specific needs of their students.
UEE's Approach
Informal assessments are fully integrated into lesson plans, providing teachers with ongoing opportunities to evaluate student progress. As an example, UEE provides hundreds of grade-leveled reading passages that emphasize a specific Concepts© reading skill and highlight key vocabulary words introduced in the context of the passage. Follow-up questions based on the text help assess the development of comprehension skills.
